NEW MARKET – Southmont’s senior girls basketball players showed coach Reasley Thompson they heard him loud and clear.

Two days after playing their worst game this season, the Mounties turned in what might have been their best one.

All they did was improve their focus.

Three
seniors – Elizabeth Sparks, Laken Joyce and Cayla Porter – scored in
double figures as Southmont rolled to a 56-43 home win Saturday over
Seeger.

Sparks finished with a game-high 14 points, while Joyce had 13 and Porter added 10.

Southmont
(3-4) led by 20 points after three quarters and held the Patriots to
single digits in each of the first three quarters.

Thompson also acknowledged they played much better with a renewed focus.

“When
we got offensive rebounds, we scored easy points,” he said. “We were
sharing the basketball, keeping the floor spaced and hitting the
person.”

Southmont next plays Friday in its Sagamore Athletic Conference opener at Danville.
