PLAINFIELD – Southmont’s Jonathon Christensen did it again.

When Indiana High School Athletic Association postseason, he must add an extra bounce to his step.

He’s now set IHSAA or school records in two of his last three postseason meets.

And he’s just a sophomore.

Christensen
set an IHSAA Plainfield Sectional and school high jump record, leaping
6-feet, 10-¼-inches at Thursday’s meet and winning the event on his
final jump.

He broke a 16-year-old record, besting David Hart’s 6-10 jump in 1992.

Heading into his final jump, Christensen had to clear 6-10 to defeat Brownsburg sophomore Todd Nibbs.

Christensen
did that – and went on to earn the record. He broke his school record
of 6-9 which he originally set at last year’s IHSAA Lafayette Jefferson
Regional.

“He’s been over 7-feet in practice several times
this week,” Southmont coach Marvin Walters said. “He knows he’s capable
. . . Under all that pressure, standing around all night, he was under
control and poised. He had the self-discipline to keep his mind focused
and was able to pull it out. It’s a great feat.”

Southmont had
three athletes while county-rival Crawfordsville had two relays and two
individuals advance to next week’s IHSAA Lafayette Jefferson Regional.
The top four individuals in each event move onto the regionals.

Crawfordsville
senior Trace Cotten won the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 15.15
seconds. He beat out Southmont senior Patrick Posthauer (15.53 seconds,
third) and sophomore Ronnie Posthauer (15.56 seconds, fourth), who also
advanced.

Patrick Posthauer also moved on in the 300 hurdles, finishing fourth (41.85 seconds).

Crawfordsville’s
400 relay of seniors Ronnie Myers, Jim Shelton, Jordan Boykin and
junior Craig Fairley placed third (44.30 seconds). They were just .16
seconds behind winner Avon and .07 seconds behind runner-up North Putnam

All
four also ran on the fourth-place 1,600 relay, which finished in
3:33.97.Boykin also advanced in the 100. He finished third (11.45
seconds).

North Montgomery had one individual advance – senior
Zach Minchin (pole vault) in the IHSAA Lafayette Jefferson Sectional.
He placed third.
