| Mounties take tumble
THE PAPER
CAYUGA – Dan Chadd can’t explain the Southmont High School boys basketball team’s most recent loss.
He just knows they need to work on free throws.
Southmont hit just 12 of 29 free-throw attempts and suffered an upset 65-59 loss Saturay night at North Vermillion.
Senior Cody VanScoyoc led the Mounties (2-3) with 18 points, while senior Scott Paris added 13.
North Vermillion outscored Southmont 24-17 in the fourth quarter to capture the win.
Southmont also shot 32.3 percent from the field, along with going 41 percent from the free-throw line.
The Mounties also gave up more offensive rebounds to the Falcons than they have to any other opponent all year, Chadd said.
“It’s probably the most disappointing been in my short career,” Chadd said. “It was a culmination of things. The worst thing, as a coach, is that we gave up 65 points. We didn’t give 65 up to North Montgomery or Danville. Those are two of the top teams around.”
